UBC Volleyball Spike Against Saskatchewan Block

UBC Women Beat Saskatchewan Twice to Stay Unbeaten in Canada West

Summary

UBC’s women followed their opening wins over Calgary with two more victories at Saskatchewan on October 30 and 31. They won 3-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday, reaching 4-0 in Canada West play. The most interesting part for younger players is how UBC responded when a set became uncomfortable.

UBC’s first road test of the season

The Thunderbirds beat Saskatchewan 25-12, 25-22, 28-30 and 25-16 on October 30. Outside hitter Kylee Glanville recorded 22 kills on a .576 hitting percentage, plus two aces and eight digs, according to the official UBC match recap.

The third set is worth remembering. Saskatchewan took an early lead, and UBC rallied to tie the score at 24. The Huskies still won it 30-28. UBC didn’t let that settle the match, finishing with a 25-16 fourth set.

The next night looked different

On October 31, UBC swept Saskatchewan 25-15, 25-17 and 25-16. Ella Ungemach had 11 kills, eight digs and two aces. Jocelyn Lenarcic contributed seven blocks, as reported in UBC’s Saturday recap.

The Huskies cut the second-set deficit to one at 18-17. UBC then scored seven straight points to close the set. The report identifies pressure from serving and blocks as part of the team’s performance, but the exact decisions made in every rally would require watching the match.

What would a college coach notice?

A good recruiting video should show more than a great spike. Watch the way UBC managed the last few points of a close set, and think about your own matches. Can you stay composed when the opponent scores three in a row? Are you still making purposeful serves? Does your passing hold up?

These are habits worth developing now. Our volleyball recruiting tips explain how to put together video that gives coaches a clearer picture of your game. And if you’re comparing Canadian and U.S. options, start with the recruiting options guide.

What UBC has coming up

UBC returns home to play Thompson Rivers on November 6 and 7. The official preview within Saturday’s recap notes that Thompson Rivers was No. 7 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10. This should be another useful test, but four early wins are not enough to predict the entire season.

FAQs

Was UBC undefeated after the Saskatchewan weekend?

What can a younger player learn from these results?

Watch how teams respond late in sets, especially after poor passes or a run of points by the other side.

Should I use university match footage to choose a recruiting school?

It’s a useful starting point, but also research academic fit, your position and a team’s actual roster needs.
