Summary
Toronto opened the 2026-2027 OUA women’s volleyball season with two straight-set wins over RMC on October 30 and 31. The Varsity Blues’ serving stood out, and the weekend gives prospective university athletes something useful to watch: what players contribute when the ball is not headed straight for a highlight reel.
What happened in Toronto’s opening matches
Toronto won Friday’s opener 25-20, 25-14 and 25-18. The first set was not a procession. RMC led 16-13 before the Varsity Blues scored ten points in a row to turn things around. Toronto recorded 42 kills, 10 aces and 49 digs, according to the official October 30 recap.
On Saturday, the Blues won again in three sets. The team’s October 31 report lists 16 service aces and seven total blocks. That’s a lot of pressure created before the opponent can settle into its attack.
The players behind the numbers
Giulia Chimilovski had 12 kills in Friday’s win, while Olivia Zhu added nine kills, ten digs and three aces. Thea Ziesmann recorded five aces. Delaney Watson finished with 15 digs. Those contributions came from different roles, which is the part worth noticing.
On Saturday, Julia Liu registered nine kills and three aces, and Louisa Cassidy contributed 18 assists. One weekend doesn’t establish who Toronto’s best player will be over the full season. It does show several ways a roster can contribute to a win.
The recruiting lesson hiding in the box score
If you want to play OUA volleyball someday, watch what happens between the big points. A server who targets a weak passing lane, a libero who steadies serve receive or a setter who adjusts to an awkward first pass can change the entire rally.
Before contacting a university program, check its roster and make sure you can explain what you bring at your position. Having an organized volleyball recruiting profile makes that introduction easier. If you’re comparing academic and athletic fit, the questions in our school evaluation guide are useful even though that guide focuses on NCAA schools.
